I Am A Little Speck in the Universe

For the past two days, we have been traveling by charter bus through the Irish countryside on our way to Dublin. Along the way, we have stopped at Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle, the Dark Hedges (a popular Game of Thrones filming spot, see some more of the popular filming spots in Ireland here), a 4,000-year-old fort and Slieve League, one of the tallest sea cliffs in the world.

It was difficult to actually believe that these places were real because it felt like something out of a storybook. There is something to be said about reading about a place like Giant’s Causeway in a history book and googling the pictures online and then actually being there and seeing it with your own eyes. Pictures and words cannot do it justice. I felt as if I was transported into another realm or world. I kept expecting to see Frodo Baggins and Sam climbing up the mountain side.

What is also so wild to me is that we saw and touched things that were built by humans over 4,000 years ago. I can barely survive without wifi for a day, imagine what it was like to have to build forts with your bare hands and rocks. I was really grounded by that to say the least. It makes you realize how small you truly are. Being on top of Slieve League and looking around, you see how insignificant some of your worries and troubles are. You see how beautiful the world can be and you can let go of past hatred and anger or sadness and you just kind of come to terms with how giant and precious this one life is, so you might as well make it the best you can. Pretty silly but also pretty incredible how one cliff could make me feel so many different emotions.
