2 Points for Gryffindor

Harry Potter is one of the biggest franchises in the history of movie industry. What Warner Brothers UK has accomplished with Harry Potter is truly remarkable. I still remember when Harry Potter came out, I personally didn’t read the books, but I was an avid viewer of the movies. Although I was only six at the time, I still remember my brother introducing me to the series. Being so young, I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about the movie, but I do know it opened my mind and imagination to limits that I could never even compare to. At a very young age, our imaginations are already expressed, but Harry Potter opened so many doors for kids like me.IMG_1604

That is why Harry Potter was so popular, it struck kids all over the world in so many different ways. Harry Potter unlocked a whole new era of wizardry and fantasy genre. Till this day, I still reminisce about how my brother and I would go outside and act like we were in the wizardry world. We’d run around our house, cast spells, and use drumsticks as wands. We couldn’t help but try to be apart of the world that J.K. Rowling created. It was something that we couldn’t get enough of. Fast-forwarding to present day, my brother and I, more so my brother, are still in-love with Harry Potter, we have marathon’s and watch all the movies, collect wands, and still wish we could attend the school of Hogwarts. The fact that J.K. Rowling created this series, looked upon a castle and got the idea of this world is simply fascinating.IMG_1568.JPG

Being able to visit Warner Brothers UK, is every avid Harry Potter’s fans dream. To be able to see all of the props, costumes, and see how they made the special effects was an experience Ill never forget. I was very intrigued on how much time it took to build all of the props, and sets. I mean, it took weeks to build some sets, only to get destroyed in a matter of seconds to create one scene. The amount of work and dedication put into these films is amazing. While going through the tour, I finally felt that imagination that I had as a kid, come back to me. It was energizing to feel that again. As soon as we walked through the Great Hall, that was when I felt the Harry Potter world come to life. I couldn’t help the fact that I wanted to just put my hands on all the movies props, I might’ve touched the snitch once, but don’t tell. Throughout the tour, each and every attraction took me back in time to when I first started watching the movies, so Warner Brothers Studios London did a great job with the way that they presented and showcased the tour and experience.IMG_1574.JPG

Before our tour, we had the pleasure of meeting with the president of Warner Brothers UK, Josh Berger. I was basically star-struck the entire time, but I mean, who wouldn’t be?  Although he only had time for about an hour with us, it was still remarkable to be able to have a chat with him. It was inspirational listening to how he became the president of Warner Brothers UK. With that being said, he was fortunate enough to have grown up in a family that was already involved and employed in the entertainment industry, so he was able to get his foot in the door at an early stage in his life. But, he didn’t let that stop him from obtaining and striving to be something in life. I liked the quote that he used stating that “You make your own luck in life”, and I thought to myself that that is very true. We work with what we have in life, but it is up to us to go above and beyond and strive for things in life. To hear him talk about what he does with Harry Potter now was extremely intriguing to me. Even though Harry Potter movies, and books haven’t released anything new, the franchise of Harry Potter is still booming and is still gaining fans. Josh Berger’s job is to manage the marketing side and business aspect of the Harry Potter franchise in multiple different countries. I could imagine how stressful that job would be, handling so many aspects of the company and communicating, compromising and trying to think of new ideas to spark and push forward Harry Potter. Luckily, with the fan base that Harry Potter has, I don’t think it is too hard to think of a new tourist attraction for fans to attend to. Josh Berger seemed to be an honest, humble, and down to earth person, so it was uplifting to know that someone at that status in life, can open up and talk to you at a personal, yet educational level.IMG_1587.JPG

From my experience with Warner Brothers UK, I was a amazed with how their media agenda works. They have so much to offer regarding souvenirs, t-shirts, mugs, gloves, wands, the list truly goes on-and-on, but this allows fans to be a part of something forever. The movies, and books will always play a huge impact on new, and current fans. The movies allowed the books to come to life. This is what is so special with media today, we can get an idea of something, put it in our head and express our ideas through movies, or other media outlets. Media allows us to create worlds only our minds can make. Harry Potter is the epitome of what it is to invent the world that we all cherish and only could dream of being in. Warner Brothers UK tour was a blast, and I can only hope to come back and experience it again. But, for now, I can only anxiously wait for Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. I know I am not the only one waiting to see what J.K. Rowling has up her sleeve on this new series, but I already have a hunch that this series will be amazing.
